Goals for Area 5
- Increase basic competence in quantitative reasoning and problem solving, starting at an appropriate entry level;
- Understand some fundamental principles of reasoning that are involved in mathematics or logic;
- Understand quantitative and symbolic reasoning through the study of significant applications of mathematical sciences.
Current Course Offerings
All of the following courses are approved for the Curriculum for Liberal Education for Area 5. If your college requires depth studies in this Area, you may choose one of the course combinations listed, or courses in sequence (course number ending with 5 or 6; for example, MATH 1015 and 1016). Colleges may also recommend particular combinations of courses.
